Just two days after debuting a new location device, the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office used the technology to locate an autistic child who had left his home Saturday and couldn’t be found.
Chief Deputy Don Sloan said the new tracking device, called the EmSeeQ, fits around the arm like a wristwatch and is more precise in locating its wearer than previous technology.
The devices, developed by EmFinders, were acquired for Project Lifesaver, which the sheriff’s office coordinates with the Lynchburg Police Department and Lynchburg Life Saving Crew.
The 12-year-old boy, who has had other incidents of wandering from home, had been fitted with the transmitter last Thursday. When he left home on Saturday, his parents called 911 and dispatchers notified the sheriff’s office, which called the company to activate the device.
