WOODBURY, Tenn. — A teenager disappeared and has been missing now for days. Now his panicked family is begging for help because not only is he missing, but parents said the teen desperately needs his medication.
Brian Kite is 18 years old and too old to be placed on Amber Alert. Still, his mother, Marjorie Griffin, said Kite is autistic, bipolar and has ADHD, and his mother said she fears that Kite won't last long without his medications.
"Not knowing whether my son is laying out in the cold, whether my son has eaten, if he's hurt, if he needs medical attention, I'm worried about all really bad things," said Griffin.
Family members said a friend last heard from Kite via text message at about 6 p.m. Friday. He was on his way to a football game.
"He said, 'I got a ride in a silver car. They said they're your cousin.' And Andy is, like, 'Brian who is it? I don't know any cousin up that way,'" said Griffin.
Deputies traced the message and said it was sent from within a mile of a Woodbury cell phone tower. Law enforcement, friends and family have been sending messages continuously since then, but they said they haven't received a response.
"He never runs away. He never leaves home without us knowing. He texts us a million times a day," said Alexis Crabtree, Kite's sister.
To make matters worse, Griffin said, Kite is autistic and bipolar and needs his medication.
"He could be hurt and without his medication. He's like a loose cannon. He can just go off," said Griffin. "I just want anybody that sees him or knows anything to let us know so that we can bring him home where he's safe."
They said they're just hoping it's not too late.
"I'm terrified that we're going to find him, but in any case, we have to find him. I just want to know either way," said Griffin.
Investigators said they did find the owner of that suspicious silver car and that he or she is cooperating.
Officers are also interviewing Kite's high school friends.
Kite was last seen wearing black basketball shorts with white trim around the legs and white K-Swiss shoes.
