An incident over the weekend shows the importance of firefighters’ other public safety roles, including searching for missing children, Fort Wayne Fire Department officials said.
Fort Wayne firefighters on Sunday morning found a boy whose mother got a scare when he ran from his home on the 1900 block of Greentree Court.
The boy’s mother said she was upstairs getting ready to visit a friend when she heard the back door slam and the boy’s younger sibling yelling for her, according to a news release provided by the fire department. She called 911 at 10:56 a.m. when she realized her son, who has autism, had run from the house.
